Product description

Earthenware Reclining Horse – Han Style

A particularly decorative little horse with a beautiful, weathered appearance, inspired by the centuries-old Chinese ceramic art of the Han Dynasty.

The Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) was known for its refined earthenware sculptures, including countless horse figures. Horses held significant meaning at the time and symbolized strength, wealth, prestige, and prosperity.

Within Chinese funerary culture, earthenware horses were frequently included as grave gifts. They formed part of the so-called mingqi : objects that symbolically accompanied the deceased in the afterlife.

This characterful little horse is rendered in a calm, reclining pose. The gracefully curved neck, the detailed head, and the subtly designed harness give the piece an authentic appearance.

The weathered surface in soft sand, taupe, and earth tones creates a beautifully understated character. Small imperfections and nuances in the finish enhance the charm of this special object.

A charming find for lovers of authentic home accessories, Eastern influences, and a rustic, Belgian minimalist, or wabi-sabi interior.

Beautiful on an old wooden table, a robust sideboard, or as a standalone decorative object in an open cabinet.
